Today’s Trading Lesson…
How to Profitably Manage a Big List of Stocks
I rarely traded multiple positions for about the first 2 years of my trading career. Our mentors taught us to find a position you like, find a tight stop, and “size up.” I didn’t know any better so I listened.
It was a mistake.
For the time period, (before HFT and stocks trading in fractions) maybe it made sense, but looking back it was a dumb plan. Our actions should always strive to allow our edge to work over many trades. Active traders need to trade, to make this happen, We aren’t investors looking for growth.
Honestly speaking I was afraid to trade multiple positions. I didn’t think I could manage them all at once. I was wrong. Not only was I wrong, but my trading changed dramatically when I traded more. When I made every trade that matched my strategy. No cherry picking. It’s not necessary.
Today’s video explains how to manage multiple positions like a pro. Learn to master this skill, and you will never hesitate again. You begin to trade for probabilities, instead of worrying if the trade is a winner or loser. Quite frankly, when you reach higher levels of trading experience, the result of each trade doesn’t matter.
Trading your edge over a large sample, and letting the edge do the hard work, is the path to six-figures and more.
Enjoy the video.
On the Tape Today | 4-28-17
DLTR | Dollar Tree sets up a new swing trade, but we need to wait for the entry. Yesterday's stock price trade into the Saturation Point, which means today would be the final day of profit-taking for the recent bullish momentum move. The absolute worst place to be a new buyer. Game planning to bid a limit order @ $81.50 with a stop loss on a close below $80. Looking to add if filled @ $84, and holding the full position to the resistance @ $88.75.
Tape Reading the SPY ETF
$SPY traded a putrid 52.8 million shares yesterday.
Sounds horrible but the stock market continues to follow the blueprint we crafted for this week. Our SPY game plan from April 26 perfectly called the pause. The fact that we see light volume is encouraging for a higher open and trend day (provided we see volume back above 80 million or more for the day).
Profit potential remains limited for the general stock market on a new long, but if we trade through $240 with sufficient anger, we should have a clean bullish morning to trade.
The ghost in the background comes from another weekend of potential big news with President Trump warning of a ‘major, major conflict’ with North Korea. The statement shouldn’t stop you from bidding for stock, but it should influence your weekend positions if the news escalates as the day nears 4pm.
This week provided us with an incredible tape reading experience, I highly recommend reviewing this section from Monday through Friday. You will be glad you did.
