Wal-Mart earnings: In-store and digital sales put it a step ahead of the competition
Wal-Mart Stores Inc. is expected to report third-quarter earnings Thursday before the opening bell, and analysts think the company’s efforts across both in-store and online sales are pushing it ahead of the competition. Cowen & Co. analysts say they favor Wal-Mart WMT, -1.38% over Target TGT, -9.87% , with its omnichannel capabilities giving the retail giant continued momentum.
“In our view, the retailer is ahead of peers in terms of demonstrating aggressive and innovative strategies to leverage its store network (about 4,700), which we believe provides strategic advantages over both brick-and mortar and online competition,” analysts led by Oliver Chen wrote.
Why Wal-Mart and Best Buy earnings mean so much for the market
Big-box retailers Wal-Mart and Best Buy are due to report quarterly earnings on Thursday, and one strategist is watching specifically for the companies’ holiday sales forecasts.
After Target “pre-warned” about a relatively soft holiday season on Wednesday in its own earnings report, the guidance for other large retailers will matter for the broader retail space, said Boris Schlossberg, managing director of foreign exchange strategy at BK Asset Management. Here’s why…

How to Choose Multiple Time Frames – Your trade bias versus traded time frame
Knowing your trade expectation before the trade, makes managing the trade 10X easier.
One of the biggest struggles we encounter is “How long to hold a trade?. When do we hold longer? When do we book quick profits?”
This list gives you a solid foundation to review before you place your next trade.
- Knowing your trade expectation first- will dictate which time frames you should monitor.
- Trade expectation: how long you plan to hold a profitable trade.
- Strategic choices for trade expectation: Scalp-momentum-intraday position- multi-day-swing.
- Knowing your risk tolerance and financial ability to take certain types of risk will also factor into which time frames
- Each strategy is a valid way to make a living; the only difference is which time frames you monitor for your resources.
- To be clear: one set of charts will help you determine if you want to be a buyer or a seller; another set of charts will
help you enter and exit.
It is imperative you choose, dancing between strategies is difficult.
