Today’s Trading Lesson…

Why the Rich Get Rich and the Poor Get Poorer

The story you are about to read is true. None of the names were changed to protect the players.

If you’re on the wrong side of break-even, I’d recommend shutting your cellphone for the next 20 minutes. Your view of trading and the stock market is about to change.

The charts won’t change, but what you’ll see is different.

For over 93 years those who understood order flow, profited handsomely by interpreting price action revealed on the tape. I’ve been told by clients that tape reading gives them a “second sight.” Everything changed when they elevated from chart reader to tape reader.

When you see what’s was missing, when you see behind the tape, trading will never be the same.

Many traders hear “tape reading” and think it reeks of old-school methods no longer valid in today’s 24 hour, global market. These same traders risk precious capital on trades they see on Fast Money, Jim Cramer or on StockTwits. Maybe you’re one of them.

X | United States Steel Corp has reached a Saturation Point. A key profit-taking point for institutions and shows an increase in volume to "prove it. Plan to exit and take profits on a higher open and then bid the next pull-back with a limit order to bid @ $36.25.

SM | SM Energy Co. remains in play as a short-sale. A perfect pause on light volume and over $3 profit potential. Game planning a $28.25 sell-stop and a target to cover @ $25.25.

Tape Reading the SPY ETF

$SPY train keeps on rolling.

Lower volume on new highs means you need to focus on your intra day criteria today. Profit-taking is due, a higher open, especially a gap, should be an exit signal. At the very least, you move your trailing stop-loss higher.

The last few day gave you an incredible lesson in order flow. Don’t fight the tape when it’s obvious. Too many traders want to call a top when they lose money on longs.

I’ve been there, done that. It’s the wrong play, it’s short-term P&L thinking.

Your last losing trade doesn’t negate the institutional edge. Play the long, which means judge your results over time, over a large sample size.

Don’t drive yourself crazy trade-by-trade.
