$MS Earnings Update:
Morgan Stanley clears lowered expectations.
Morgan Stanley said its profit fell 12% in the second quarter as the company weathered volatile markets that affected its investing and corporate clients.
Earnings and revenue, however, beat expectations, pushing shares up 2.9% premarket.
The bank’s net income declined to $1.58 billion, or 75 cents a share, from $1.81 billion, or 85 cents a share, a year ago. Analysts polled by Thomson Reuters had expected a per-share profit of 59 cents.

Dow poised for 7th straight record as Microsoft rallies
U.S. stocks futures climbed on Wednesday, setting the Dow Jones Industrial Average on track for a seventh straight day in record territory as Microsoft rallied premarket after better-than-expected earnings.
More financial results out on Wednesday from Morgan Stanley, Halliburton and Tupperware could also help drive the market action in the day ahead.
On a more upbeat note in the earnings season, shares of Microsoft Corp. MSFT, +4.20% jumped 4.2% ahead of the bell after the software giant’s earnings released late Tuesday beat analyst forecasts. The company also said its cloud and productivity businesses posted revenue growth, even as overall sales fell.Read More — >>

Netflix Hits Nasdaq; Dow Rises; Microsoft, Intuitive Jump After Hours
Stocks closed mixed Tuesday amid positive housing data and as earnings reports continued to roll in. Netflix (NFLX) hit the Nasdaq, while Lockheed Martin (LMT) scored gains during the regular session, and Microsoft (MSFT) jumped big after hours.
The Dow Jones industrial average held a 0.1% gain, the S&P 500 gave up 0.1%, and the Nasdaq fell 0.4%. Volume was also mixed according to preliminary figures, running slightly lower on the NYSE, but higher on the Nasdaq vs. Monday.
Metal miners, movie-related stocks and oil drillers led the downside in the stock market today, as West Texas Intermediate crude prices slid 1.4% to $44.60 a barrel. Paper, solar and ship transport stocks advanced.
After the close, Microsoft jumped 3.5% on a fiscal Q4 earnings and sales beat. The business software titan and Xbox maker earned 69 cents a share on $22.6 billion in revenue, above views for 58 cents on $22.15 billion, respectively. It fell 1.6% during the regular session, ahead of the earnings report. Shares were 6% off their 52-week high, based on Tuesday’s close.Read More — >>

A higher open set for this morning and $MS earnings on tap. The market is an obvious long, the only question is whether or not it can maintain the bullish tape after the open. Look to be long but don’t fight price action if we trend lower.
