Nvidia earnings: Data-center, auto sales more a focus than cryptomining
Data-center and auto-related chip sales will likely be the focus of Nvidia Corp. earnings when the chipmaker reports after the bell on Thursday.
Outside of Nvidia’s NVDA, +1.43% graphics and gaming sales, data-center and auto-related sales are the fastest growing arms of the Santa Clara, Calif.-based chip maker.
Gaming revenue is expected to rise 14% to $1.54 billion from the year-ago period, according to FactSet, but data-center revenue is expected to jump 85% to $548.1 million.
Auto-related revenue, which was the only segment that missed Street estimates in the previous quarter, is forecast to rise 19% to $152.2 million.
Here’s What Makes Nvidia Worth 60 Times Earnings
Nvidia’s price-to-earnings (PE), at about 60, is more than double the S&P 500’s PE of 25. When you pay 60 times earnings, you want clarity on where the growth will come from to keep the stock price moving up.
With Nvidia scheduled to report earnings tomorrow, I asked everyone collaborating with us to help me determine if Nvidia’s premium valuation is justified. Here are the best responses so far.
Cryptocurrency market could hit $1 trillion this year with bitcoin surging to $50,000, experts say
Cryptocurrencies could go on a bull run greater than last year and pass the trillion-dollar mark in terms of value, experts told CNBC, following a recent violent sell-off across digital coins.
Bitcoin has seen a huge fall in recent days, dropping below $6,000 for the first time since mid-November. On Wednesday, it was trading above the $7,000 level as the cryptocurrency market stabilized.
At its lowest point on Tuesday, the total cryptocurrency market saw over $550 billion wiped off its value. But industry insiders see another rally ahead.
Today's Trade of the Day | 2-8-18
BIDU-Baidu price action closed below the open eight of the last ten days, and traded into an inside day yesterday. Looking for an inside day breakdown to initiate a new swing trade short. Game planning a $221 sell stop to trigger the entry. Profit target to cover, comes in at $205.50. Stop loss on a close above $225. If the stock price trades higher off the open, I plan to let the trade go.
