Salesforce earnings: Looking to e-commerce, AI for growth as Dreamforce approaches

Salesforce.com Inc. went on a buying spree last year, and the resulting products should be on full display this week ahead of the cloud-software pioneer’s big annual party. When Salesforce CRM, +1.10% reports earnings for the second quarter of its 2018 fiscal year on Tuesday after the market closes, it will likely focus on the two stars that emerged from its acquisition spurt, Commerce Cloud and Einstein.

The retail platform and AI-powered assistant were prominent in Chief Executive Marc Benioff’s Dreamforce keynote address last year, and he is expected to again praise the offerings before the gigantic conference hits San Francisco again in early November. “Based on strong demand indicators around digital commerce, we expect growing strength in the Commerce Cloud business and hope to hear signs of growing sales monetization of Einstein artificial intelligence/machine learning-focused products,”

Earnings Preview: What To Expect From Salesforce.com On Tuesday

Salesforce.com is scheduled to report earnings after Tuesday’s close. Salesforce.com hit a record high of $92.49 in 2017 and is currently trading near $90. The stock is prone to big moves after reporting earnings and can easily gap up if the numbers are strong.

Conversely, if the numbers disappoint, the stock can easily gap down. To help you prepare, here is what the Street is expecting: Salesforce.com is expected to earn $0.32/share on $2.52 billion in revenue. Meanwhile, the so-called Whisper number is $0.33. The Whisper number is the Street’s unofficial view on earnings.

Expect a Huge Move From Salesforce.com, Inc. (CRM) Stock After Earnings

After a strong start to 2017, Salesforce.com, Inc. (NYSE:CRM) stock has stalled out over the past few months. CRM stock has hit heavy resistance around $90, and has been tightly range-bound since early May. I’d expect that to change coming out of the Salesforce second-quarter earnings report, to be released Tuesday afternoon.

CRM stock typically doesn’t stay that quiet for that long. While cash flow numbers are substantially better than earnings figures, this remains a stock trading at nearly 70 times the midpoint of its FY18 (ending January) per-share earnings guidance.

Trading psychology or mind games that shape your beliefs?

Once money and a trader’s ego are involved, all well laid plans are rendered mute… Trust me, you are not the exception. We all have an inner voice that can help us or lead us to doubt what we see.

We must do our best to recognize when our self-talk is in control and swaying us from our perfectly designed trading plan.

I have yet to meet a trader who hasn’t canceled a stop-loss as it was about to get hit. The fear of exiting a losing trade or avoiding the ego bruise of “being wrong” makes us do strange things.

In spite of the grip these demons have on us, I have developed some solid techniques to wake myself up when I am making poor decisions.
