Earnings Preview: What To Expect From American Express On Wednesday
American Express is scheduled to report earnings after Wednesday’s close. The stock hit a record high of $96.24/share in 2014 and is currently trading near $92/share. The stock is prone to big moves after reporting earnings and can easily gap up if the numbers are strong. Conversely, if the numbers disappoint, the stock can easily gap down. To help you prepare, here is what the Street is expecting:
“American Express is up 7 percent since July 19th the last earning report vs 3 percent for the s&p 500. We expect an earnings beat of of 1.54 vs the 1.48 street estimate. However we are confident questions on the call will touch on the Supreme Court decision to hear the Anti Steering case where axp is the
defendant. While we expect the stock to be up on the number we would not be surprised to see AXP lose some of those gains after the call.”
Can American Express (AXP) Pull a Surprise in Q3 Earnings?
American Express Co. AXP is scheduled to report third-quarter 2017 results on Oct 18 after market close. Last quarter, this company surpassed the Zacks Consensus Estimate by 0.7%. However, earnings declined 30% year over year as the year-ago earnings reflected the $1.1 billion gain, recorded from the sale of Costco Wholesale Corp. brand portfolio.
American Express Fees Under Renewed Threat As Top Court To Hear Case
The Supreme Court next year will hear arguments for a case in which 11 states accused American Express (AXP) of harming competition by barring businesses from encouraging customers to buy things with rival credit cards that charge merchants lower fees.
The court’s decision comes ahead of the card issuer’s third-quarter earnings, which are set for Wednesday. The matter could be a subject for discussion during the company’s earnings call.

JNJ-Johnson and Johnson surprised the market and produced a clean energy candlestick. What impresses me the most about this new swing trade is the pause prior to the breakout. Almost perfect technical analysis. Game planning a $141.25 buy stop. Initial profit target comes in @ $147. Stop loss triggers on a close below the $139 level.
