Amazon Merchants Continue to Find Ways to Cheat
Mike Molson Hart, who sells toys on Amazon.com Inc.’s marketplace, realized earlier this month something was amiss. His company’s popular disc-shaped plastic building set, called Brain Flakes, had dropped precipitously in the ranks of Amazon’s best-selling toys as the critical gift-giving season approached.
He visited the product page on Amazon.com and suspected he was the victim of “sniping,” when one merchant sabotages another by hiring people to leave critical reviews of their goods and then voting those reviews as being helpful, making them the most prominent feedback seen by shoppers.
Exclusive: Cyber Monday showdown – Wal-Mart closes in on Amazon in online price war
(Reuters) – Wal-Mart Stores Inc is within striking distance of matching Amazon.com Inc’s online prices for the first time, a key milestone in its effort to regain the “low price leader” title. Wal-Mart has aggressively invested in making its prices more competitive against brick-and-mortar rivals since the start of the year.
Now, the shrinking gap is also becoming noticeable across a broad range of product categories online, according to a price study conducted for Reuters, as well as interviews with pricing experts, retail consultants, vendors and company sources.

Bitcoin Approaches 10,000
Bitcoin is showing no signs of slowing down, blowing past $9,500 a week after topping $8,000 and approaching its closest ever to five figures.
The price of the largest cryptocurrency by market value is soaring as it gains greater mainstream attention despite warnings of a bubble in what not everyone agrees is an asset. From Wall Street executives to venture capitalists, observers have been weighing in, with some more skeptical than others.
Bitcoin has risen about 45 percent over the past two weeks. By comparison, it took the S&P 500 Index since February 2014 to achieve a similar increase.
