Amazon earnings: Analysts await news of the Whole Foods impact
Amazon.com Inc. is expected to report third-quarter earnings on Thursday after the market closes. Analysts will be looking for Whole Foods’ impact, with analysts at Piper Jaffray expecting about $1.4 billion contribution for the month of September from that new part of the business.
“We believe that Amazon is well-positioned to beat third-quarter margins, excluding Whole Foods, but fourth-quarter margins remain a wild card as Amazon has now added another massive project (Whole Foods) that could prevent meaningful margin expansion in the fourth quarter and first half of 2018,” analysts led by Michael Olson wrote in a note.
Amazon.com, Inc. Earnings: 3 Metrics to Watch
E-commerce giant Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) suffered a pullback in its stock price when it announced its last earnings report. While revenue continued to surge higher, net income plummeted from $857 million in the year-ago quarter to $197 million. Investors seemed to lose some confidence in
the company’s ability to grow profits.
Following a quarter marked by heavy investments and rapidly falling profits, investors are likely hoping for a solid third quarter. Amazon is scheduled to report its third-quarter results on Oct. 26. Ahead of Amazon’s third-quarter earnings release, here’s a look at three metrics investors will want to check on.

Jesse Livermore and Reading the Tape
Tape reading is not as popular as it was in the old days. Computers have made us lazy traders.
When I say the “old days,” I am referring to before 2007.
Some smart, savvy traders however, have adapted and are skillfully implementing tape reading in a much different way today. Chart reading is an element of tape reading, but they are not the same.
Our goal is to elevate from chart reader to tape reader. Learn how Livermore did it.

CAT-Caterpillar showing two bearish closes (below the open) after a bullish gap. Looking to start a new swing trade long but only on a lower opening. Looking for a decline to the $134.50 area to place a bid. If the stock trades higher off the open, I am letting it go, the profit potential is too small.
